My personal experience

My mission is to help fellow employees prevent fatalities and serious injuries by taking ownership of their personal safety.

Who am I?

I am a passionate motivational safety speaker who speaks from a position of personal experience , and because of this approach I have seen lives being changed wherever I go.

On the 4th of June 2010 , whilst working for a Mining Company in the Northern Cape, South Africa, I was involved in a life changing work related incident. As result of this unfortunate and preventable incident I lost an arm and a leg. I spent almost a year hospitalized.

My experience

“Indeed, experience is no substitute for safety,” I usually say, and although I am talking from experience, we often clothe experience with numerous praises as if it does not have its drawbacks.” Experience often breeds complacency,” I then reiterate.

After working as a qualified artisan for more than 18 years, I thought I was immune from accidents until   on the 4th of June 2010, as I was working for a mining company in the Northern Cape South Africa, an explosion occurred at my place of work making me lose an arm and a leg as a result.

I spent almost a year hospitalized. At that time, I never thought I would walk again. The whole world just seemed to be against me but by the grace of God, the people around me and my own willpower I managed to pick up the pieces and move on. I have stopped crying. I now live a life of gratitude and   purpose rather than by chance. My purpose is to ensure employees take ownership of their safety as well as inspire the disadvantaged, down-trodden and people with disabilities to keep on keeping on.

“The ideal man bears the accidents of life with dignity and grace, making the best out of circumstances’- Aristotle
